Mareike Janna Aden, born in 1983 in Northwestern Germany, is a journalist working for TV, radio, newspaper and online media (ARD, NDR, Die Zeit, DLF Radio etc). She is a Russia and Ukraine expert and was a Moscow based freelance correspondent from 2007 until the end of 2014, also reporting from other CIS-countries. In 2013/2014 she covered the Maidan revolution and Crimea annexation on the ground. In 2011 Mareike won the Peter Boenisch-Memorial Award for Journalists and in 2015 she won the Axel Springer Award in the category radio. In the same year was nominated for the CNN Award for Young Journalists in the category print.
